Growing up in a musically oriented family, Phil found his passion six years ago when he picked up the guitar. Citing John Frusciante, Hendrix, and Jimmy Page as his primary influences, he taught himself to play and perfected his skill through unending hours of practice and by allowing his mind to fall back and his hands to take over. Watching him play, it is evident the music comes from somewhere deep within him, and as the music fills the room, it fills your very soul as well.

In 2009, without any formal classical training, Phil entered Wayne State University’s music program to gain a better understanding of music theory. His goal due to his perchance for improvisation, and his unbridled passion for the instrument was “to learn to play as expressively with ‘theory’ in mind as I do when I completely turn off my brain”. Phil likes that sense of change and fluidity about his music: “it is always changing, for better and for worse, and it’s still a part of me. It’s like having a child, I suppose, as you nurture it and teach it, you get to watch it become its own individual, changing and growing all the time.”
